About Dr. Ufuk Alpsahin Cullen

Dr Ufuk Cullen is a senior lecturer, PhD supervisor and researcher, currently, working at Falmouth University.

She obtained her industrial engineering degree in 1993. She worked at global companies such as Bosch and Nike as a Process Engineer and as a Quality Assurance Manager, respectively. Following a successful engineering career and industry experience of 8 years, she started working as a Management Consultant with a particular focus on International Quality And Process Management System Accreditation. She established industry-university collaborations in some of her management consulting projects and this effort carried her career to the academic level.

She completed her PhD at two different universities one of which is University of Liverpool. She studied female entrepreneurship in the context of developing and developed countries with country case studies. Following her PhDs and a successful teaching and research career at University of Liverpool, she moved to London and worked at Plymouth University London Management School as a Senior Lecturer, Academic Programme Developer and Project Leader. She conducted various projects on student-tutor research partnership, student engagement, assessment design and student employability skills development. Next, she worked at University of Exeter as a Lecturer and Subject Coordinator. During her career at Exeter, she participated various international projects around innovation and circular economy. For example, she undertook the co-investigator role at TACIT Knowledge Alliance project. The TACIT project brought together academic partners from the University of Southern Denmark, RWTH–University of Aachen, HHL Graduate School of Management (Leipzig) with corporate partners at BMW, Nokia Systems, Lego, Lufthansa Systems, Aachen Munchener and Torbay and South Devon NHS Trust.

At her current role, Dr Ufuk Cullen is supervising PhDs, teaching at UG and PG levels and organising international academic conferences. She is also contributing to the processes of designing and developing University’s strategic foundation, mission and priorities for research as a respected member of the Research Degrees Committee. She is contributing to research at various capacities as an editor, reviewer, PGR supervisor and a researcher. She is an editor of the Entrepreneurship Special Interest Group at British Academy of Management. She is currently editing a book for EMERALD Publishing entitled New Horizons and Global Perspective in Female Entrepreneurship Research. She is also working on a research project with small independent cidermakers in the UK in the context of circular economy and business model innovation. Her research fields, broadly, lie within female entrepreneurship, circular entrepreneurship, business model innovation and application of the Institutional Theory to different cultural contexts.
